What?

Stepping off the busy streets of Berlin, you enter an oasis of calm, where soft blues and hues of white invite you to slow down and unwind. Berlin Spa Suites is a design-hotel success story, effortlessly combining Bauhaus architecture with felt ottomans from South Africa, woollen artworks from the South of France, and handmade carpets from Bali. And this eagle-eye for detail extends to the hotel’s ethical concept too, showcasing how easily sustainable practices can be stylishly incorporated into all areas of life.

Breakfast is anything but bland, boasting an elaborate spread of vegetarian and vegan treats that locals seek to snap up on Sundays. Rooms are simple but elegant emitting an aura of tranquillity. But the jewel atop the crown is the indulgent roof-top spa with a panoramic sauna and sun-trap terraces. Though perhaps you’d disagree if you stay in a suite with a private sauna...

Why?

I fell in love because...
  • Bold Bauhaus design and individual touches make each room feel special
  • An evening at the rooftop spa, with a panorama sauna and 2 sun terraces, is the perfect antidote to a busy day out in the city
You must...
  • Treat yourself to a massage and get all that stress exorcised from your body
  • Head to Boxhagener Platz for a drink: this is a buzzy corner of Berlin, and is packed full with cool bars
You might dislike...
  • You can hear the trams rattle past in some of the street-side rooms
  • The hotel is owned by a group, but it still packs personality and principals

Who?

Introducing Alexandra and Axel!

“We created the hotel in 2012 to show that ethics and aesthetics aren’t mutually exclusive.”

They love…

“Sunday brunch! Our chefs have really perfected the vegetarian and vegan breakfast spread. Think home-baked bread, Berlin curried sausage and scrambled eggs!”

Alexandra and Axel's insider tips

  • East Side Gallery, a 5-minute walk away, is a must-see as it’s a piece of living history: a section of the former Berlin wall, covered in ever-changing murals
  • Head to Markthalle Neun, just across the river. It’s an indoor market full of independent food sellers - go with an empty stomach!
  • In the summer, take a dip at Badeschiff, an outdoor pool submerged in the river Spree, and sun yourself on the floating beach with an Aperol
  • Berlin has an impressive waterway, and, in fact, has more bridges than Venice…! Go on a boat tour to get a different perspective of the city

What people

“This is a great hotel. I absolutely I love the concept of an ecologically friendly hotel. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated, plus the vegan/vegetarian breakfast buffet was amazing.”
