Hidden away, at the end of a cobblestone street in the rolling hills of the Uckermark’s Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve lies this impressive baroque manor house. Built in the early 18th century, it’s a grand structure surrounded by a six-hectare landscaped park featuring two lakes, here is where you’d find owner Maria who spent a lot of time and energy renovating the surrounding listed farm buildings into unique holiday apartments, in collaboration with architect Ferdinand v. and landscape architect Georg von Gayl.
The apartments are all individually designed and strikingly beautiful. The wooden beams that were once the main structure of the former outhouses and barns have been kept and exposed. Materials are bold; think concrete, exposed wood and metallic structures. Furniture is bold and modern. But best of all is that they all feel welcoming and homey.
The sprawling estate feels like a home-from-home and you are left to wander freely (as long as you avoid the main house). Spend your mornings with a leisurely dip in the pool, which is planted with a lot of lavender and feels almost Mediterranean. Take an afternoon stroll through the grounds, into the village and perhaps to the next for lunch. Return for a game of tennis, before finishing your day in the sauna. Or, do what we did, and just unwind in the apartments and on the terrace with a book. The quiet calm of this place is magic.
