Who hasn’t spent at least a few hours daydreaming about curling up in front of a fire in a cosy log-cabin somewhere hidden in the woods?
Autumn is the perfect time of year from a cabin getaway: the leaves are crisp and golden, there’s a coolness to the air that makes you want to toast marshmallows, and you’re less likely to see lots of people on your long hikes.
With this in mind, here’s a round up of my favourite cabins that still have availability for the autumn. Book soon, because nights in these places are going very, very fast.
Rerik Cabin
What? Two identical apartments in a stunningly created cabin with Scandinavian-inspired interiors, a stone's throw from the Ostsee.
Where? Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
I love: Long, windy walks on a beach are one of my favourite things in the world, and here you can be on the sand in a matter of minutes. Plus I adore the architecture of this place.
You might not like: There’s no fireplace.
Available: From October onwards.
Moselle River Cabins
What? Three oh-so-romantic, minimalist cabins with huge glass windows, on the ridge of a valley, overlooking a river: adults only!
Where? Rhineland-Palatinate.
I love: One of Germany’s best wine regions is right on your doorstep, and you can spend evenings stargazing from the comfort of your chalet.
You might not like: There are two adjoining cabins and you share a terrace.
Available: From mid-October onwards.
Siegfried Cabin
What? Modern cabin with bright, minimalist interiors on an unspoilt Baltic-Sea peninsula.
Where? Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
I love: The simple, sleek architecture and bright, open living space. Oh, and you’re just 230m from the sea on a beautiful peninsular.
You might not like: You’re not in the middle of the forest, and you have a few neighbours.
Available: From November onwards.
Darß Cabin
What? A modern take on local architecture: a bold wooden house with bright interiors, a fireplace and private sauna.
Where? Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
I love: You have a private sauna and chic modern interiors. Plus there are lots of gorgeous hikes that leave from your doorstep and go along the Ostsee.
You might not like: A road runs past the house.
Available: From November onwards.
What? Designer cabin that blends natural materials with sleek, bold interiors, creating a stylish stay, surrounded by fir trees in the Wendland.
Where? Niedersachsen.
I love: This is a proper cabin-in-the-woods! You’re surrounded by dense forest and this natural vibe is translated into the interiors.
You might not like: The splashes of bright yellow might not be for everyone.
Available: From October onwards.
Cabins on the Coast
What? Two cabins with modern architecture, a short dash from the stunning Baltic sea, boasting beautiful bold decor.
Where? Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
I love: You have unspoilt views over fields and forests, and there are some gorgeous walks to be had along the Darss-Zingst Bodden Chain. Plus the cabin’s interiors are modern and fun.
You might not like: The two cabins share a garden.
Available: From the end of September onwards.
